Mathematica Staff in Spotlight at Annual AcademyHealth Conference

photo of catherine mclaughlinMathematica’s health experts will be presenting nearly three dozen papers and posters at AcademyHealth’s Annual Research Meeting in Chicago from June 28 to 30. Topics include health reform, Medicare financing, Medicaid reform, health IT, state health, health data, quality of care, racial and ethnic disparities in health care, prescription drug use and financing, and issues related to the military health care system. Catherine McLaughlin, Mathematica senior fellow and director of the firm’s Ann Arbor office, serves as conference chair and is also chairing a session on Health Reform in the New Administration. Panelists will address lessons learned from previous federal reform efforts and current state reforms, White House and congressional politics, the role of stakeholders, and what proposals we are likely to see. Health Care Access for Social Security Disability Income Beneficiaries

A new issue brief profiles Social Security Disability Insurance beneficiaries to illustrate changes in insurance status, health care access, and utilization. At the time their applications were approved, 11 percent had completed the entire 24-month Medicare waiting period and about one-third had completed 12 months or more.
