Diane E. Herz
Vice President; Director, DC Survey Research, Surveys and Information Services Division
Diane Herz is vice president and director of survey research in Mathematica’s Washington, DC, and Oakland, CA offices.
Herz is responsible for quality assurance on a range of projects for clients including the National Science Foundation and the USDA Economic Research Service. Prior to joining Mathematica in 2008, Herz directed the Current Population Survey program at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, where she was responsible for production of the monthly report on unemployment in the United States. She also directed the development of the national American Time Use Survey program.
Herz has led questionnaire design, testing, and analysis efforts on subjects including the employment of persons with disabilities, Gulf War veterans, and Hurricane Katrina evacuees and the measurement of volunteering, civic engagement, food and eating, and employer-provided training.
Herz has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals, including the Monthly Labor Review, and has contributed to several books. She has presented at a wide range of professional meetings. Her research topics have included survey development and management, the employment and time-use patterns of population subgroups, employer-provided training, and pension and retirement trends.
Herz has an M.S. in management information systems from Nova Southeastern University. She is also a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute and the Fellows program of the Council for Excellence in Government.
