John M. Love
Senior Fellow
John Love is a senior fellow at Mathematica. He has 40 years of experience conducting research, program evaluations, and policy studies with early care, education, and family programs.
Love, who has been with the firm since 1992, is an expert in child care and early education policies. He has worked extensively with federal, state, and community groups on issues of school readiness, child care quality, and assessment. Since 1995, he has been one of the lead researchers in the Early Head Start National Research and Evaluation project, and served as project director from 1995 to 2002. He continues to chair the Early Head Start Research Consortium. He also directs the Universal Preschool Child Outcomes Study for the First 5 Los Angeles Children and Families Commission.
Love has served on numerous panels and advisory committees, including the Head Start Performance Measures Technical Work Group, the advisory panel for the evaluation of the Carnegie Corporation's Starting Points Initiative, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary's Advisory Committee on Head Start Research and Evaluation. He holds a Ph.D. in child behavior and development from the University of Iowa.
