Reducing Underage Drinking
Underage drinking is a major concern of parents and policymakers. Tackling the problem involves resources from many partners, including state and community coalitions.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funded 12 state coalitions to mobilize action to change the social environment that facilitates underage drinking. We surveyed the general public in the evaluation states and a comparison sample representing the balance of the country. In addition, we conducted supplemental state surveys in the coalition states to explore in more depth some of the topics of particular interest to the coalitions. Survey topics measured public views on state and national policies aimed at reducing alcohol use by minors, including excise taxes, changes in seller and server policies, actions to reduce youth access, and changes in advertising regulations.
