Evolution of Care Delivery in Medicare

Changes in medical practice over time drive a multitude of adjustments for beneficiaries. We convened an expert panel to examine changes in the Medicare benefit package and implications for various constituencies. The panel explored four areas:

  • What changes in the clinical and technical world of medicine are affecting beneficiaries
  • How changes affect care delivery
  • How well the current payment system supports these innovations
  • What implications changes have for design of the Medicare benefit package

The panel examined the areas of epidemiology (illness and disability), technology (new medical technologies and changes in location of care), geriatric medicine (care delivery and management), and health systems (emerging use of information systems, the internet, disease management, and other topics).
