Food Stamp Policy Alternatives

Mathematica's microsimulation models are helping policymakers project the consequences of different policy options that would limit benefits to some groups and restore benefits to others. Mathematica can use microsimulation to analyze food stamp policy changes proposed by members of Congress or the administration and can provide results within as little as 24 hours.

In addition to estimating the impact of policy changes, Mathematica also uses microsimulation models to estimate national and state-level FSP participation rates to help measure success of reaching target populations, analyze the characteristics of households with nonrecipient members and low-wage earners, multiple benefit receipt of food stamp recipients, and analyze asset and vehicle holdings of low-income households. The findings from these efforts help provide a sound foundation for understanding these important policy issues.
