Mara Kolesas is Mathematica’s new diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) director of operational planning and implementation. She joins Mathematica’s DEI team of Dawnavan Davis, Cleo Jacobs Johnson, Terica Adams as they continue efforts to ensure that Mathematica centers DEI in its work to improve public well-being. “I am honored to join Mathematica in its work to advance well-being for all by helping it model the equitable and inclusive society we aspire to and deserve," said Kolesas.

“Mara brings deep and diverse experience related to DEI and will focus on making our workplace even more welcoming and inclusive for all colleagues,” said Dawnavan Davis, vice president and chief equity and inclusion officer at Mathematica. “The depth and breadth of her work, demonstrated leadership, and clear passion and commitment to the field will be a tremendous asset to the DEI team and Mathematica as we continue to advance along our DEI journey.”

Born in Argentina and deeply marked by its last dictatorship, Kolesas earned her Ph.D. in political theory at the New School for Social Research in New York and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Instituto Universitario Europeo in Florence, Italy. Kolesas comes to Mathematica with more than 15 years of experience in the fields of citizenship, education, DEI, and women’s equality and is committed to bringing academic insights to practical uses and social endeavors. Before joining Mathematica, Kolesas served in roles at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, UC Berkeley, the United Nations Development Programme, UN Women, and the Fromm Institute at the University of San Francisco.

Mathematica is deeply committed to DEI both within the company and in its work with clients and partners, as demonstrated by the Disability Equality Index’s recognition of Mathematica as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” three years in a row. Kolesas will help Mathematica continue to make progress on its DEI journey, collaborating with staff and partners to shape a more equitable and just world.
