Sinclair Named ASA Fellow

Jun 23, 2016

Michael Sinclair, a senior fellow at Mathematica, has been named a fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA), the nation’s preeminent professional statistical society. To be recognized as an ASA Fellow, honorees must make outstanding professional contributions to and have exhibited leadership in the field of statistical science. Sinclair will be awarded a certificate at a ceremony August 2, 2016, at the 2016 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM 2016) in Chicago.

Since 1914, the ASA has conferred the designation of Fellow, which, according to ASA bylaws, is extended to a maximum of one-third of one percent of the total association membership. Individuals are nominated by their ASA colleagues, and the Committee on Fellows evaluates each candidate’s contributions, giving consideration to such factors as research, teaching, mentoring, occupation, service to the ASA and the broader community, professional activities and accomplishments in other organizations.

The ASA is the world’s largest community of statisticians and the oldest continuously operating professional science society in the United States. Its members serve in industry, government and academia in more than 90 countries, advancing research and promoting sound statistical practice to inform public policy and improve human welfare.
