Arnold Chen

Arnold Chen studies the effects of health policies and programs on the quality of care.

Chen directs  an evaluation for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to help health care providers modernize their information technology to improve quality of care, focusing on providers in rural and underserved areas. He also led the impact analyses for the evaluation of Quality Improvement Organizations, which help health care providers deliver high-quality care to Medicare beneficiaries, one of the federal government’s largest investment in quality improvement infrastructure. 

Chen has led the quality-of-care analyses for many other studies of coordinated care, disease management, informatics and telemedicine, payment reform, and other areas.

Chen has published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Diabetes Care, and other journals. He has presented his work at AcademyHealth, the American Public Health Association, and the Congressional Budget Office. He also serves as clinical assistant professor of medicine at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey–Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and practices general internal medicine at a community health center. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado and a general medicine fellowship at West Roxbury Veterans Affairs Hospital and Harvard Medical School and is board certified in internal medicine. He has an M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and an M.Sc. in health policy and management from Harvard School of Public Health.
