Louisiana was the first state to implement the automatic enrollment option for Express Lane Eligibility (ELE). Beginning in February 2010, the state established financial eligibility for Medicaid based on income determinations made by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Louisiana has also been using ELE for statewide renewals since November of 2010. The state’s implementation of ELE built on its prior efforts to streamline enrollment and renewal, which already placed Louisiana among the nation’s leaders.
