Introducing a Partnership for Strengthening Culture-Based Elementary Math Education in Standing Rock (Infographic)
Standing Rock Tribal Education Department is partnering with Sitting Bull College, Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Central, and Standing Rock schools, educators, Elders, parents/caregivers, and community members to apply Dakota/Lakota ways of thinking to create math lessons for children in third through fifth grades. The Partnership will develop a community to learn about culture-based education and math practices, conduct an inventory of current math practices in Standing Rock and select content to use for designing the culture-based math modules, and help learners in Standing Rock schools understand the relevance of math in their lives and increase their engagement with math both in school and at home.
