SSI Youth Solutions

2019 - 2021

Project Overview

Objective

To develop policy solutions that can assist youth with disabilities.

Project Motivation

The main goal of these policy solutions is to improve youth’s long-term employment outcomes, though the solutions also address additional goals such as increased educational attainment.

Prepared For

U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy, SSI Youth Solutions

The SSI Youth Solutions project seeks new policy solutions that can help youth with disabilities—particularly youth receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI)—successfully transition to adulthood.
Families, practitioners, and policymakers are interested in these new policy solutions to ensure the availability of better policies, programs, and service initiatives that can help solve the challenges that youth SSI recipients face.

This project is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Office of Disability Employment Policy by Mathematica, under contract number 1605DC-18-A-0020.

Through a competitive application process, ODEP selected 12 policy, program, or service ideas proposed by experts to promote the transition outcomes of youth SSI recipients that represent (1) novel, untested ideas that warrant further scrutiny or (2) interventions with credible evidence of their effectiveness worth considering for broader implementation. The selected experts will develop their solutions into papers to be published in early 2021. Contact us to be notified when the papers are published.
