As school districts grapple with the challenge of preparing students for college and a career, early mathematics education has emerged as an area ripe for quality improvement.

The Early Learning Mathematics Initiative is a creative teacher professional development model that includes evidence-based approaches for improving mathematics teaching and learning in prekindergarten through third grade. The model combines teacher training in mathematics standards and research-based teaching practices with supportive coaching and professional learning communities.

Our evaluation assessed the impact of the model on student achievement, examined changes in teacher instructional and formative assessment practices, and explored the potential for sustainability.
