This article highlights the policy challenges that confront geriatrics research, education, and clinical programs following the "great recession." The authors describe relevant new federal and state initiatives and note how academic geriatrics and general internal medicine can join forces with public and private interests to secure the resources needed to advance the agenda for geriatrics clinical care, health professional training, and research.
