This is the third and final report on the national Demonstration to Maintain Independence and Employment (DMIE) evaluation. Authorized under the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999, the program awards funds to states to develop, implement, and evaluate early interventions for workers with potentially disabling health conditions. The evaluation examined impacts on three key outcomes: health and functional status, employment outcomes, and reliance on federal disability benefits. Overall, early interventions such as the DMIE could have positive impacts, although the extent of effects varied across states.
