Anthony Louis D'Agostino

Dr. Anthony Louis D’Agostino leads the Data Innovation Lab, Mathematica’s incubator for testing, validating, and scaling new methods and technologies and serves as a principal researcher in the Data Solutions division.

He is an applied microeconomist who uses survey, administrative, and remotely sensed data to understand the human and environmental impacts of social policy.

He is a co-principal investigator on a Gates Foundation-funded project to build an AI-assisted platform that provides agricultural program decision makers with unprecedented access to evidence on agricultural practice effectiveness. He has led or supported prior tool development, including of an agriculture, forestry, and other land use greenhouse gas calculator and climate vulnerability assessments developed for AGRA member countries. He has led cost-benefit analyses and evaluations of irrigation, land reform, power sector, and violence reduction interventions, among others, for clients including the Millennium Challenge Corporation, Rockefeller Foundation, CIFF, BRAC, and the city of Oakland.

D'Agostino has published in Agricultural Economics, Energy Economics, Energy Policy, the Journal of Environmental Management, and Remote Sensing Applications: Society and Environment. He is the lead author of a book chapter on the use of remote sensing data in impact evaluations in a forthcoming edited volume published by Taylor & Francis.

Before joining Mathematica, D’Agostino was a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University’s Center on Food Security and the Environment. He holds a Ph.D. in sustainable development from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, and a master’s degree in public policy from the National University of Singapore.
