An Introduction to QCIT: Measuring the Quality of Child-Caregiver Interactions

Mar 17, 2020

In 2020, Mathematica launched a ground-breaking new quality measurement observation tool, now available to the early childhood community (including program administrators, professional development providers, researchers, and others) The measurement tool—The Quality of Care for Infants and Toddlers (QCIT), formally known as Q-CCIIT—collects information about caregivers’ interactions with children up to age 36 months. QCIT data can be used to understand how caregivers in particular classrooms and family child care homes:

  • Engage in positive and nurturing interactions
  • Build children’s cognitive skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Enhance language and literacy development
