A new, publicly available data file on physician group practices has been released by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s (AHRQ) Comparative Health System Performance Initiative. This new resource is part of the Compendium of U.S. Health Systems and identifies more than 36,000 physician group practices containing more than 500,000 physicians who served Medicare beneficiaries in 2016. The tool also identifies 5,355 physician group practices (with more than 290,000 physicians) that had a tight affiliation with one of the nation’s 626 health systems in the 2016 Compendium. Stakeholders can use these data to better understand the role of physicians and group practices in health systems and study how health care delivery systems promote evidence-based practices and patient-centered care.

Mathematica partnered with AHRQ to create this new file and other important resources such as the Compendium’s hospital linkage file and data highlights. Stay tuned for the release of the 2018 version of the Compendium of U.S. Health Systems.
