Key Findings
- More than 98 percent of grantees had recent income-generating activities (IGAs), which is well above targets set by impact bond partners.
- The rate of active IGAs was similar across different program sites and demographic groups, including both men and women, and Syrian refugees and Jordanians.
- Grantees are making frequent sales transactions and earning positive profits from their businesses, which they use to support their household expenses .

The IKEA Foundation has contracted with Mathematica to conduct an independent evaluation of the program funded by the DIB. Mathematica’s evaluation seeks to both measure the metrics to determine payments to investors and generate broader learning about the program’s impacts on participants' economic and social wellbeing, to support future adaptation and scale-up.
This brief provides a snapshot of the first cohort of participants’ income-generating activities about 10 months after receiving their grants. It summarizes the proportion who have an active business, the income and profits generated by their businesses, their income from employment, and their adoption of business management best practices.
