Key Findings

Research points to three key factors that can affect high-quality service delivery:

  • Capacity, whether staff have the necessary knowledge and skills to provide the services.
  • Motivation, whether staff have buy-in and confidence to deliver the services.
  • Opportunity, whether the work environment and resources enable staff to perform at their best. HMRE leaders often help staff build their capacity through training and professional development, but it is just as important to consider ways to motivate staff and make sure they have the opportunity and support to succeed.

This brief presents four tips for supporting staff providing HMRE services and examples from the experiences of the HMRE grant recipients who participated in SIMR. It focuses on ways to generate motivation and buy-in and provide organizational supports to staff.
