Micah Wood is a Researcher in the Education and Employment area. Her work focuses on studying the implementation and effectiveness of postsecondary readiness and career-connected learning interventions in communities across the country.
She has experience working closely with educators, program leaders, community partners, and funders to collaboratively evaluate and continuously improve programs to drive positive outcomes for all students. She has served as a key partner to philanthropic organizations seeking to design or strengthen a strategic plan or funding strategy. As a former practitioner, she is passionate about ensuring researchers work in meaningful partnership with educators and community members to ensure research processes and research products are accessible and ready to be put to practical use.
Since joining Mathematica in 2021, Micah has worked on a range of products in postsecondary education, career readiness, and STEM education. She is has provided evaluation and program technical assistance to diverse organizations, including nonprofit agencies providing social service interventions to families experiencing poverty and postsecondary institutions seeking to equitably improve student outcomes. She co-lead data collection, analysis, and reporting for the Gates Foundations’ Analysis of Middle School Math Systems project, focusing on qualitative and quantitative measurement of culturally responsive math teaching practices in middle school classrooms. She is a certified reviewer for the U.S. Department of Education’s What Works Clearinghouse, systematically reviewing education research and translating the findings of rigorous evidence into practical recommendations for educators.
Micah is an AmeriCorps alumna, having served with City Year New York from 2014-2016. Prior to joining Mathematica, she worked in multiple education nonprofits supporting direct service delivery and leading research-informed continuous improvement efforts. She holds an M.P.A. in Policy Analysis and Program Evaluation from New York University.
