Mathematica President and CEO Paul Decker announced the appointment of Lisa Schwartz as the company’s first chief business officer. In this role, Schwartz will lead the execution of business strategy and ensure operational excellence across the company. She will also lead Mathematica’s Business Operations Unit, driving successful business development, contract operations, and project management through client-focused counsel, business practice transformation, and meticulous risk assessment and mitigation.

“As Mathematica continues to grow, Lisa is the clear choice to help our partners see clearly, act quickly, and calibrate effectively, whether in the United States or abroad,” said Decker. “Her leadership, coupled with her expertise in reimagining the way the field gathers and uses data, will strengthen Mathematica’s role as a trusted partner to federal and state agencies, foundations, and the private sector. Lisa will be a true trailblazer as we help our clients define their paths to progress.

Schwartz joined Mathematica in 2005 and has held a number of leadership roles in the company, most recently as senior vice president for business practice. Before joining Mathematica, Schwartz was a senior research scientist at NORC and associate program manager for the American Time Use Survey at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. She holds a Ph.D. in cognitive developmental psychology from the University of Maryland.
