Ben Schneedecker

Principal Data Analytics

Ben Schneedecker specializes in developing and managing large-scale data processing systems that support federal decision making for health policy.

Schneedecker oversees teams that use Python, Spark SQL, and SAS to transform and analyze complex Medicaid and Medicare administrative data. Since joining Mathematica in 2013, he has led the design and implementation of analytic systems for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, including workflows that generate monitoring metrics to inform policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and frameworks for calculating national healthcare quality measures. He has overseen initiatives to migrate analytic workflows from SAS to Databricks and created training resources and a knowledge base to support new developers and ensure efficiency in large-scale data operations.

Schneedecker’s earlier work includes building analytic files to assess alternative Medicaid expansions across multiple states, evaluating data quality in Medicare Advantage encounter records, and supporting the Medicare Physician Feedback/Value-Based Payment Modifier program through complex data integration. He holds a master’s degree in computer and information technology from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Michigan State University.
