Chris McInnish brings a depth of knowledge of Medicaid programs and data sources along with a passion for quality improvement, enabling him to bridge these disparate areas in his work.

At Mathematica, Chris has worked on various state Medicaid projects. These projects included work on developing quality measures and reports, provision of technical assistance, and advising development of the state Medicaid program. In addition, Chris has worked extensively with the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment Project, leading the annual quality review process and the implementing of Form CMS-416 replication using Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System Analytic Files (TAF) data. Chris has also used TAF data to explore replication of Core Set measures and to support rule development for the Quality Rating System. For a project team that provided technical assistance for immunization registry use, Chris brought experience from Alabama in connecting to the state registry and using the data to support Child Core Set measure reporting.

Chris came to Mathematica after retiring from the Alabama Medicaid Agency. While there, he led development of the Quality Analytics Division and subsequently began the reporting of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Adult and Child Core Set measures. Chris also was also project director for the Alabama Medicaid Primary Care Case Management and Health Home programs. Before working at the state’s Medicaid agency, he served as deputy and as acting commissioner for the Alabama Department of Children’s Affairs. This experience provides him with an in-depth understanding of state capabilities and challenges.
