Mary Grider is an expert in the development of comprehensive data systems to support education research, programs, and policies.

Grider’s work has facilitated collection and processing of data for numerous projects informing education policy and practice. She is providing technical assistance to 16 Teacher Incentive Fund grantees to support implementation of performance-based compensation systems. She led a team of programmers to construct a student-teacher-school database for Washington, DC, public schools and developed code to implement value-added models to evaluate teachers and schools. In other education projects, she provided programming and support for an evaluation of Teach for America, a study of teacher quality distribution and measurement, and evaluations of teacher induction and preparation models.

Before joining Mathematica in 2000, Grider was a math teacher in the Houston Independent School District, which she entered as one of the first Teach For America corps members. She holds an M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management.
