Mike Burns is the senior director of communications and public affairs at Mathematica, where he is responsible for driving all integrated communications, including public affairs, strategic external engagement, and internal communications.
Before joining Mathematica in 2022, Burns was deputy assistant secretary and acting assistant secretary for public affairs at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In that role, he led the development and implementation of communications strategies and served as the principal spokesperson for major policy efforts as the department navigated the COVID-19 public health emergency and other key challenges.
Before joining HUD, Burns held a variety of roles within the U.S. House of Representatives, most recently as deputy communications director for the House Appropriations Committee.
Burns has an M.A. in government from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. from the University of Richmond.
