The Inside Track on Advanced Analytics

Advanced analytics is the engine of value-based care. But it's more than simply dashboards and point-in-time statistics for business operations. Advanced health care analytics facilitates robust monitoring and rapid-cycle evaluations to help you manage population health, evaluate health care interventions’ effectiveness, and promote cost-reducing programs while identifying less-effective programs with sufficient time to course correct. Advanced analytics requires a knowledge of diverse health care data sources and the statistical methods to evaluate health outcomes.

Lane 1 provides the inside track for your analytics journey regardless of your starting position. We understand a successful advanced analytics strategy is one that moves a state along an analytics maturity model. Progress along the maturity model requires not only technical skills for accessing and integrating data but also Medicaid programmatic knowledge. Integrating data domain knowledge with Medicaid policy expertise permits states to connect the right analytic tool to the most rigorous analytic method to answer any policy question. Unlike many firms that have expertise in only one domain—data, policy, or analysis—Mathematica brings subject matter expertise in all three domains to support your advanced analytics journey.

Analytics Maturity

A Comprehensive Monitoring Tool

Although state Medicaid agencies collect or have access to many sources of data, agencies may not have the ability to translate the data into actionable information for their staff. Giving Medicaid agency staff ready access to their data and providing a means to translate that data into information enables them to better manage and monitor the Medicaid program. Lane 1 features robust monitoring of state-selected health care system changes to help agencies manage population health, track health care interventions, and promote cost-reducing efforts—all in real time.

Designed to Generate Medicaid Program Insights

Lane 1 lets states reimagine the way they use claims, encounter, administrative, and other sources of data, surfacing insights for changes that can be used immediately to improve program oversight. Is your state on track to meet improvement targets? Is the opioid intervention having an impact on quality outcomes? Are inpatient costs increasing or decreasing? Through the creation of profiles and analyses, you can determine which elements of the health care payment and delivery system you want to monitor. Or, you can monitor the entire Medicaid program against various outcomes, targets, and benchmarks—you decide.

Mathematica knows that data and interventions are becoming increasingly complex and that states need analytical resources as accessible as they are agile. In addition, states need not only to be able to make changes to the Medicaid program, but also to receive feedback quickly to determine whether these changes should continue, expand, or be modified. So we developed Lane 1 to be highly technical at its core but innately human-centered and responsive in its interface, helping you focus on the functionality of your Medicaid program, not your software system.

That Transform and Innovate

With Lane 1, states can test, analyze, and improve upon interventions, identifying indicators of effectiveness of policy changes across domains. Whether the challenge is moving from volume- to value-based care, monitoring changes for a Medicaid policy or intervention, or comparing managed care organization performance to targets, Mathematica’s Lane 1 can shine a light on the practices, policies, and programs that can improve results for populations, providers, and plans in your state.

Medicaid progress. Made together.

Lane 1 packages Mathematica’s data insights and methods and Medicaid subject matter expertise into configurable software. It’s your data. It’s your program. Lane 1 Future

There are many exciting advancements planned for Lane 1.  Our vision for Lane 1 is to iteratively develop functionality that moves from monitoring outcomes, to predicting and evaluating outcomes. In future phases of the tool we will give users more flexibility in developing outcome measures, provide for comparison group identification, incorporate new data sources, and enable users to perform predictive modeling.

As we move closer to predicting future impact of current interventions, we will look to facilitate rapid-cycle evaluation of programmatic changes within Medicaid and suggest proven health-improvement interventions for populations of interest.
