Mathematica Health Care Experts to Present at AcademyHealth’s 2018 Annual Research Meeting

Jun 21, 2018

More than 20 of Mathematica’s health care experts will present at AcademyHealth’s 2018 Annual Research Meeting, which takes place Sunday, June 24, to Tuesday, June 26, in Seattle, Washington. They will join more than 2,500 attendees at the Washington State Convention Center to discuss and share how evidence-based research is improving the health of individuals and communities.

In a series of paper and poster presentations and interest group meetings, Mathematica staff will highlight their research and expertise in a variety of health care policy areas including Medicaid, child and family health, health care cost management, and quality measurement.

Agenda highlights include the following:

  • Deputy Director for Mathematica’s Center for Studying Disability Policy Jody Schimmel Hyde will present at a preconference Disability Research Interest Group session focused on the impact of Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act on employment for adults with disabilities.
  • Senior Researcher and physician Joseph Zickafoose will present a paper at the Child Health Interest Group on developing payment models to support innovative health care delivery for children with medical complexity.
  • Senior Fellow and physician Ann O’Malley will present a paper on how accountable care organizations use population segmentation to improve and reduce health care cost for high-need and high-cost patients.
  • Senior Researcher John Schurrer will present a paper on Medicare’s Chronic Care Management payment policy targeted to provide enhanced care and management for patients with chronic health conditions.

Mathematica’s health experts will also provide career development advice at the annual meeting:

  • Vice President Margo Rosenbach will participate in a panel discussion focused on working in contract research settings, opportunities for professional development, and strategies for the job search in a contract research career.
  • Senior Fellow Catherine McLaughlin and Researcher Genna Cohen will offer practical skills and insights for recent Ph.D. students seeking the right postdoctoral fellowship or research position after graduation.

A full agenda of our activities can be found here.

We invite conference attendees to visit Mathematica’s booth (212/214) to learn more about our work, inquire about employment opportunities, and participate in a trivia game celebrating Mathematica’s 50-year anniversary, classic Mathematica health studies, and advances in health care policy.
