Marina Mileo Gorzig is an applied microeconomist whose research focuses on social inequalities, particularly discrimination in the labor market and health disparities.

Since joining Mathematica in 2022, Gorzig has worked on a variety of projects including evaluating the impact of renter protections on discrimination in rental housing, projecting unmet need for Title X funding, analyzing the role of navigators in access to unemployment insurance, and examining the relationship between extractive industries and mortality among Indigenous people. Gorzig also enjoys learning about new research areas through systematic reviews and evidence scans in areas ranging from cash transfer programs to sexual and reproductive health policies.

Gorzig is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community; her experiences of discrimination and LGBTQIA+ advocacy during high school spurred a deep interest in how policies affect marginalized communities. With her training in economics and her interdisciplinary breadth, Gorzig investigates pressing questions related to social inequities, such as racial disparities in Minneapolis police stops, searches, and arrests of Native American women. Before joining Mathematica, Gorzig was selected to participate in the 2022–2023 visiting scholar cohort at the Opportunity & Inclusive Growth Institute within the Minneapolis Federal Reserve, conducting research while in residence. She also taught at St. Catherine University and worked as a research scientist at the Minnesota Population Center.

Gorzig holds a B.A. in economics from Earlham College, an M.S. in economics from Tufts University, and a Ph.D. in public policy from Duke University.
