Since it began more than 50 years ago, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has provided nutrition assistance to millions of low-income individuals and families nationwide. Although SNAP expenditures fluctuate based on factors such as increased unemployment and changes in program eligibility requirements, over 47 million Americans still received benefits as of 2012, even as eligibility rates continued to decline.

To illustrate these and other economic trends, Mathematica Policy Research created a new interactive tool that presents SNAP enrollment data in three modules. The modules focus on (1) program history, (2) program eligibility, and (3) program participation and related research. Learn more about SNAP trends by exploring the data visualization here.
