Mathematica Denounces Anti-AAPI Violence

Statement from Mathematica CEO Paul Decker
Feb 26, 2021

As the Lunar New Year observance draws to a close today, the traditional spirit of celebration is marked instead by profound sadness and anger, as anti-Asian racism, hate crimes, and violence continue to rise in the Bay Area and across our nation. According to recent reports, there have been more than 2,800 firsthand accounts of anti-Asian incidents across 47 states and DC, with a disturbing spike in attacks since late January of this year.

The Mathematica community stands with our Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) colleagues, families, friends, and communities in denouncing racism, xenophobia, and intolerance in all forms. It is important that those experiencing trauma as a result of anti-AAPI violence or harassment and yet another wave of social injustice know that they are not alone – we see and grieve alongside those who are suffering.

Despite these appalling incidents of anti-AAPI racism and ongoing injustices perpetrated against communities of color everywhere, the Mathematica community draws strength from our shared commitment to ending racism wherever and however it exists. United in our vision for shaping a more equitable and just world, we will make progress together.
