About Sule

Sule Gerovich manages state health policy portfolio at Mathematica. Gerovich is an expert in health care payment policy, alternative payment models, global budgets, all-payer models, and quality and performance measurement. She has extensive experience with state health policy in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Gerovich was a member of the Milbank Foundation’s Emerging State Leaders Program and contributed to a framework for states to measure total cost trends.

Gerovich currently leads two projects to support Vermont’s implementation of the All-Payer Accountable Care Organization model and Pennsylvania’s Rural Hospital Global Budgets. She also provides subject-matter expertise in the development of provider benchmarks and monitoring reports for Maryland’s all-payer rate-setting commission. Gerovich has served as the deputy director of a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services-funded bundled payment initiative and as a facilitator for a technical expert panel assessing public use files for the Medicaid and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) Business Information Solution Business Analytics and Data Quality.

Before joining Mathematica in February 2017, Gerovich worked at the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission, where she led research and methodology projects for the all-payer hospital payment system (including developing efficiency and quality measures and payment adjustments); conducted statistical analysis of hospital use, cost, and quality; developed and presented policy recommendations; and led the implementation policies that the Commission approved. As a senior health analyst at the Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC), she updated the state health plan for nursing homes, developed predictive models for home health use, and calculated nursing home quality measures and survey results at MHCC.

Gerovich also has a clinical background, having worked as a clinical nurse for six years in inpatient settings. Gerovich has a Ph.D. in public health from Bloomberg School of Public Health and an M.P.P. from the same university.
