She facilitated information and technology sharing for infectious disease outbreak detection and prevention between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, APHL members, national associations, and other federal agencies. She also helped the Infectious Disease Committee create standards and guidance to mitigate infectious disease outbreaks. As an epidemiologist for the Kentucky Department for Public Health, Kovach coordinated with regional epidemiologists to resolve and determine the sources of local and national disease outbreaks and conducted molecular surveillance activities to monitor enteric diseases in Kentucky. Kovach holds an M.P.H. in epidemiology from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.
