Deric Joyner supports Mathematica’s internal project teams and clients, developing and executing collaborative and coordinated external communications and engagement plans and activities. Joyner specializes in translating complex policy-relevant evidence from research into language that is informative and accessible to stakeholders in fact sheets, newsletters, presentations, and digital products.
Joyner works collaboratively throughout Mathematica to develop and implement strategic outreach campaigns, including the identification and engagement of target audiences and the use of effective engagement vehicles. He also contributes compelling content for the company’s external website, stakeholder emails, electronic newsletters, blog posts, and social media platforms. He coordinates with graphic designers and other communications colleagues to produce high quality products that effectively engage priority stakeholders. In addition, Joyner helps with corporate communications, thought leadership, and outreach functions to increase Mathematica’s visibility and position the company as an expert and objective resource for federal agencies, foundations, policymakers, and journalists.
Before joining Mathematica, Joyner served as a senior dissemination strategist with Business Strategy Consultants, where he worked with clients in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, developing and executing long-term communications strategies for projects, outreach activities, and meetings. Prior to that, he worked with the National Academy of Social Insurance as a project associate, connecting policymakers and researchers with insights on Social Security, Medicare, workers’ compensation, and unemployment insurance policy. Joyner holds a master’s degree in public administration from American University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Morehouse College.
